Setting up Taxes

You can begin setting up your built-in Tax Manager by going to Settings =>Payment =>Tax Manager in the Left Hand Navigation menu.

At the top right of the page, you can click "Add New Sales Tax" to begin setting up your store's tax charges.

U.S. Based

For U.S. based merchants, 3dcart's built-in Tax Manager can be set to apply tax charges based on the ship to address' zip code.

After clicking on the "Add New Sales Tax" button:

  1. Select the United States from the country menu and then select your state.
  2. Enter your first zip code range by entering the low-end zip code in the "Zip From:" field, followed by the high-end zip code in the "Zip To:" field
  3. And enter the sales tax percentage needed for that range of zip codes.
  4. Lastly, click add to save your zip code range

You can enter as many zip code ranges as needed.

Note: For all zip code ranges in your state, simply leave the Zip From and Zip To fields blank so that the percentage is charged for all orders in the selected State.

Non U.S. Based

For our international merchants, 3dcart's built in Tax Manager can be set up to apply tax based on the ship to address' country and state or province. Furthermore, it allows a multi-tiered tax rate with up to 3 tax rates that can be combined with the previous tax level as needed.

After clicking on the "Add New Sales Tax" button:

  1. Select your country from the country menu and then select your state or province.
    If you need to specify your state or provinces, you may do so in the Shipping Countries section of the 3dcart Online Store Manager.
  2. Enter your first tax rate in the "Tax field.
  3. Repeat for Tax 2 and Tax 3 if needed
    (you can click on the "Include Previous" checkbox if you need to include the subsequent levels with their preceeding ones.)
  4. Lastly, click add to save your tax rate.

You can enter as many tax rates for your country as needed.

Note: After entering your tax rates, you will have access to the Tax Code field for each rate. Tax codes can be used if your area requires different tax charges based on individual product types. For information on setting up tax code based tax charges, please click here.
